 FALL FINAL

plan

background

first i started with making a pinch pot shape with a hollow inside, then I started to shape the watermelon by stretching the clay on both sides. Once it was in the shape of a watermelon I started to smooth it out and add let it dry so it maintained a shape. Then I used underglaze to paint the colors and designs on the watermelon

i think I didn't do as well as I could have since my project was rushed but I like how it turned out since I think watermelons are really cool and the painting its based off is really cool.  But it ended up how I had planned so that's good.

The artist I chose was Frida Kahlo, and her painting is called "viva la vida, watermelon" I thought it was interesting because of the colors she used and how the dimensions were used with the peices of watermelon. The painting represents life and fertility, meaning ""long live life" I was drawn to them because I thought her back story of the painting was interesting and I wanted to learn more about it. Frida Kahlo was a Mexican artist known for her self-portraits and  personal style. Born in 1907, she suffered severe injuries from a bus accident that caused lifelong pain and strongly influenced her artwork. Kahlo used bold colors and symbolism to explore themes of identity, culture, gender, . Her work often reflected Mexican traditions and her complex relationship with fellow artist Diego Rivera. Today, Frida Kahlo is celebrated as a symbol of resilience, individuality, and artistic expression.
